What is Cub Scouts?

Cub Scouts is family Scouting for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade — boys and girls. Kids join a den of children their own age, work through hands-on adventures all year, and earn a rank at the end of it. Along the way there are campouts, derby races, games, and service projects around Franklin.

Get outside

Family campouts, hikes, fishing, and cooking over a fire. Beginner-friendly — if you don't own gear, we'll help.

Grow with a den

Your Scout joins a den of kids their own grade and works through adventures together all year.

Serve Franklin

Flags for veterans, Scouting for Food, and community projects that show kids what citizenship means.

Kindergarten – 5th grade

Find your Scout's den

Kids join the den that matches their grade in school and earn that rank over the year.

Lions

Kindergarten

The first taste of Scouting. Lions do everything alongside a parent or adult partner, so nobody is ever dropped off alone.

Tigers

1st grade

Tigers explore their neighborhood and community with an adult partner, earning their first real adventure loops.

Wolves

2nd grade

Wolves start working more independently — building, hiking, and learning outdoor skills with their den.

Bears

3rd grade

Bears take on bigger challenges: pocketknife safety, cooking over a fire, and leading parts of the meeting.

Webelos

4th grade

"We'll Be Loyal Scouts." Webelos start bridging toward Scouts BSA with more advanced outdoor and service work.

Arrow of Light

5th grade

The highest rank in Cub Scouting, and the final year before crossing over into a Scouts BSA troop.

Every rank earns six required adventures plus at least two electives.

How to join Pack 290

You can join any time of year, and you can try it before committing to anything.

  1. 1

    Visit a pack meeting

Show up as a guest — no registration, no cost, no pressure. Regular clothes are fine. Your Scout will jump right in.

  2. 2

    Register online

Create a my.Scouting account and complete the Pack 290 application. About ten minutes, covers registration plus pack dues.

  3. 3

    Meet your den leader

We connect you with the leader for your child's grade, add you to the calendar and Facebook group, and explain the uniform so you don't overbuy.

Volunteering

The pack runs on parent volunteers, but most jobs are small: bring snacks, drive to an event, run one station at the Pinewood Derby. Nobody is drafted to run a den.

Safety

All registered leaders complete Youth Protection Training and a background check, and we follow two-deep leadership. Parents are welcome at any activity, any time.
